Chennai: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday announced a statewide black-flag protest to be held on April 16, opposing constituency delimitation.

In a statement, Stalin said black flags would be hoisted at homes and in public places across Tamil Nadu. He described the proposed delimitation amendment, which he said the BJP-led Union government plans to bring in Parliament, as a “historic injustice” to Tamil Nadu and other southern states.

Stalin argued that southern Indians were angered by the move and warned that the Centre was “playing with fire”. He said Tamil Nadu would continue to protest against the proposal.

He also cautioned that if the Union government did not step back after hearing Tamil Nadu’s voice, it would face consequences and “pay a heavy price”. Stalin additionally released a video on the issue.
