Several announcements made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly for strengthening legal education and related infrastructure are yet to be implemented, according to details listed under the Law and Justice Department.

Among the pending measures is a proposed voluntary internship programme for newly graduated law students, with a monthly stipend of ₹20,000. Plans also include creating high-speed Wi‑Fi zones at the government law colleges in Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli.

The list further mentions annual international workshops, seminars and law conferences for final-year students across 14 government law colleges, along with English skill development training for students. Faculty-focused initiatives such as teacher development and innovation training for assistant and associate professors have also been announced.

Infrastructure proposals include indoor sports facilities and gyms at select colleges, introduction of an NCC course component in undergraduate law programmes, and expansion of postgraduate offerings at multiple government law colleges including Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai.

Other pending items include a new LL.M programme on “Cyberspace, Law and Justice” at Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, a ₹15 lakh plan to upgrade the university’s legal research wing to international standards, new library buildings at Tirunelveli and Vellore at an estimated ₹14 crore, translation and distribution of law textbooks in Tamil, e-library projects for government law colleges and the Law Department library, and steps to set up seven commercial courts to handle business disputes.
