Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday claimed that Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha constituencies could be reduced from 39 to 31 through a proposed delimitation exercise, and said the DMK would strongly oppose any such move.

Campaigning in Nagercoil in support of DMK candidates, he alleged that the BJP-led Union government was attempting to curtail Tamil Nadu’s rights and described the seat reduction as another step in that direction.

Udhayanidhi also criticised the Centre for not allocating funds to the state, stating that Tamil Nadu had not received the education-related funds due to it.

Highlighting the state government’s record, he said several schemes had been implemented over the past five years. He added that the DMK has promised to increase the women’s entitlement assistance to Rs 2,000 if it returns to power, and to provide an Rs 8,000 coupon to women to purchase household electrical appliances.

He further said Chief Minister M K Stalin was the only chief minister who speaks out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
