TVK chief Vijay has attacked the DMK over its ‘₹8,000 coupon’ announcement, asking whether elections meant to protect citizens’ democratic rights are being turned into a “chess hunt” for power.
In a statement, he referred to reports that a woman in Mannachanallur near Trichy died by suicide, allegedly unable to bear obscene abuse during the distribution linked to the DMK’s coupon programme. He said the news was “shocking” and raised questions about the party’s conduct.
Vijay alleged that the DMK is claiming it will provide ₹8,000 and that, after returning to power, people can use it to buy household essentials. He described the announcement as a sign of “fear of defeat” ahead of the 2026 Assembly election.
He demanded that those responsible for the alleged incident be arrested immediately. He also urged the Election Commission to intervene and take swift action to stop what he called deceptive election-time practices.
