Chennai: Leema Rose, the AIADMK candidate from Lalgudi constituency in Tiruchirappalli district, has submitted a complaint to the Election Commission seeking action against Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi.
In her petition filed at the office of the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer, she alleged that during a campaign event in Lalgudi on April 11, Udhayanidhi referred to her political identity using a derogatory label and attempted to influence voters against her.
She further claimed that Udhayanidhi publicly alleged that she and her family maintained links with multiple political parties for “hidden motives” and intended to restart lottery sales in Tamil Nadu.
Rose stated that her husband, Martin, is involved in lottery sales, which she said are legally conducted in 13 states including Kerala, Sikkim, Goa, Punjab and West Bengal, following the respective state procedures. She requested that Udhayanidhi be restrained from making what she termed defamatory statements against her and her family.
A similar complaint was also submitted at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office by Jose Charles, son of lottery businessman Martin and leader of the Lakshya Jananayaka Katchi, which is part of the NDA alliance.
