Ramanathapuram: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Wednesday said the outcome of the 2026 election would be crucial to bringing down “family politics” in the state.

Speaking during election campaigning at Mudukulathur in support of AIADMK candidate Malasiya Pandi, Annamalai targeted DMK minister Rajakannappan, alleging he had been shifted across multiple portfolios and calling him a “rotation minister”. He claimed the minister faced opposition wherever he went and that people had asked him not to come seeking votes.

Annamalai also accused the DMK’s five-year rule of worsening law and order, citing figures for crimes against women, rape cases, murders and child sexual offences. He further referred to the Election Commission’s intervention in an “8,000 token” issue.

Highlighting development works, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had delivered several projects for Ramanathapuram district, including a medical college, upgrades at Rameswaram railway station, a Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram four-lane road project and Jal Jeevan scheme works benefiting Ramanathapuram and Pudukkottai. He also pointed to pipeline water coverage in the district and alleged recent changes in top state administration, calling for a change in the Chief Minister on April 23.
