Flying squad officials in Chennai have seized gold and diamond jewellery valued at Rs 245 crore after it was found without proper documentation during a check.

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly general election scheduled for April 23, the Model Code of Conduct is in force. Authorities have intensified inspections across districts to curb alleged distribution of cash and valuables to voters.

During a flying squad inspection in Adyar, officials intercepted the jewellery and seized it as no valid papers were produced on the spot.

The seized items were handed over to the Income Tax office. Shastri Nagar police have launched an inquiry in connection with the seizure.
