In an unusual trend this election, candidates in a few constituencies have brought their children into the heart of campaign work. Traditionally, senior leaders and party workers lead outreach, but this time family members—especially the next generation—are being seen on the ground.
The report cites multiple examples. In Madurai’s Thirumangalam, AIADMK candidate and former minister Udhayakumar has taken his daughter along and even had her address gatherings. In Dharmapuri, PMK candidate Sowmya has sent her two daughters for intensive door-to-door canvassing.
In Coimbatore North, BJP candidate Vanathi is undergoing treatment in hospital, and her son has begun campaigning in her place. In Trichy district’s Lalgudi, AIADMK candidate Leema Rose—wife of lottery businessman Martin—has her son actively supporting the campaign.
The trend is also visible in DMK constituencies. In Tirupattur, candidate Kavitha Dhandapani’s daughter and son are seeking votes directly from residents, while in Katpadi, minister Durai Murugan’s daughter-in-law is campaigning and asking for votes.
A key reason highlighted is the focus on youth votes. Candidates believe young campaigners can connect more easily with voters under 30, and some have also entrusted their children with overseeing election income and expenditure, reflecting both strategy and trust—while quietly shaping the next generation of politicians.
