Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday demolished portions of the house of a 19-year-old man accused of sexually abusing around 180 minor girls after allegedly luring them through social media.
Police said the accused, identified as Mohammed Ayaz from Bharadwada in Amravati district, allegedly befriended girls by claiming to be in love, assaulted them, and recorded obscene photos and videos to threaten them.
The case came to light after explicit visuals linked to him circulated on social media. A BJP MP reportedly lodged a complaint with the district Superintendent of Police, following which Ayaz was arrested on April 11 and his mobile phone was examined.
Investigators said he used Snapchat and WhatsApp groups to contact minors, took some of them to cities including Mumbai and Pune, and stayed in rented rooms. Police also alleged he used the recordings to intimidate some victims into sex work.
Officials later found the accused’s house had been built on encroached land. Municipal staff arrived with a bulldozer and demolished parts of the structure, including the staircase, windows and roof sections, officials said.
