AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has reportedly issued a stern warning to party functionaries in North Chennai, asking them not to be “swayed” by minister Shekar Babu.

According to party sources, AIADMK candidates from constituencies including Perambur, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, Kolathur, Harbour, Royapuram and R.K. Nagar complained that some local office-bearers were not carrying out election work properly and were allegedly maintaining indirect contact with Shekar Babu while acting against the party.

Following these complaints, Palaniswami is said to have summoned more than 50 functionaries—district, area and circle-level office-bearers—to his residence and reprimanded them. Harbour constituency candidate Royapuram Mano reportedly submitted, as supporting material, a complaint he had filed with the Election Commission against Shekar Babu and certain police officials.

Palaniswami also instructed cadres to campaign with sharp criticism of Shekar Babu, sources said. He reportedly told those accused of switching loyalties that he had a list of names and warned that if the party loses in North Chennai, the responsibility would fall on the functionaries, adding that strict action would follow without leniency.
