Chennai: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a statewide black-flag protest to be observed across Tamil Nadu today, opposing a proposed legal amendment linked to constituency delimitation.

In a video message, Stalin alleged that the BJP-led Union government is using delimitation to disadvantage Tamil Nadu and other southern states. He claimed that while the Centre would project a nominal increase for the South, it would significantly expand seats in northern states that it considers politically favourable.

Calling it a “major injustice”, Stalin questioned whether southern states were being “punished” for controlling population growth. He further alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was attempting to reduce Tamils and people of southern states to second-class citizens.

Stalin urged people across Tamil Nadu to hoist black flags at their homes as a mark of protest against the amendment expected to be brought in Parliament today. He said the demand of Tamil Nadu’s people was that the “black law” should not be passed.
