Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin staged a protest in Namakkal against the proposed constituency redelineation, hoisting a black flag in front of a DMK functionary’s residence and burning a copy of the plan.
Stalin alleged that, under the guise of redrawing constituencies, the BJP-led Union government was acting beyond its limits and “cheating” southern states, including Tamil Nadu. He said the proposed legal amendment would claim to marginally increase seats for the South while significantly boosting seats for northern states.
Earlier, Stalin had announced that black-flag demonstrations would be held across Tamil Nadu to oppose the redelineation move.
During the protest, DMK members raised slogans demanding that states’ rights should not be taken away.
Black flags were also seen at locations including the MDMK office in Chennai, Anna Arivalayam, and the Chief Minister’s residence, according to reports.
