Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) while campaigning in Thoothukudi district.

Addressing voters in support of DMK candidates contesting from Ottapidaram and Kovilpatti constituencies, Udhayanidhi said Palaniswami should be “punished” again, alleging the district had suffered betrayals linked to incidents such as the Thoothukudi firing and the Sathankulam father-son custodial deaths.

He also accused the BJP-led Union government of not providing funds and schemes to Tamil Nadu, and claimed EPS had “sold” the state’s rights. Referring to the previous Assembly election, Udhayanidhi alleged the AIADMK had been “rented out” to the BJP then, and was now “sold outright” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the current election.

Responding to criticism from EPS, Udhayanidhi said he had no experience of “falling at anyone’s feet for a post” and rejected what he described as being subservient to ideological groups. He further alleged that EPS had used abusive language against him during the campaign.
