Ajitha Agnes, who recently quit the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and joined the DMK, has alleged that money played a decisive role in appointments and candidate selection within TVK.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi district on Wednesday, she said her family had been associated with actor Vijay’s people’s movement from the time it began. After TVK was launched in 2024, she claimed she worked sincerely for the party but was not treated with respect and that those who worked genuinely were not given responsibilities.
Ajitha said Vijay had known her family for about 25 years and that she tried to raise her grievances by stopping his car and seeking justice. However, she alleged that Vijay, as party leader, did not listen to her complaint till the end.
She further alleged that the party’s general secretary Anand scolded her and told her to join another party, and claimed women did not receive respect in TVK. She also accused the party of collecting money for all posts and from prospective candidates before elections, saying only those who paid were given a chance to contest.
Stating that she felt she was not given even basic dignity, Ajitha said she decided there was no need to remain in TVK and joined the DMK. She also made critical remarks about statements attributed to the party leadership and about Vijay’s public image.
