PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, alleging the DMK government has failed to ensure women’s safety. Speaking at a campaign meeting in Eriyur near Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district, he questioned why Stalin should continue as Chief Minister if he cannot provide security to women.
Campaigning in support of PMK candidate Selvam, Anbumani also criticised Stalin for making remarks about him during the Chief Minister’s recent visit to Dharmapuri. He said a Chief Minister should speak about five years of achievements and public issues, and claimed Stalin had instead spoken “badly” about him.
A major portion of Anbumani’s speech targeted former PMK honorary president G.K. Mani and Mani’s son Tamizhkumaran. He alleged that G.K. Mani had played a role in creating a rift between him and his father, PMK founder S. Ramadoss, and accused Mani of acting at the behest of the DMK leadership.
Anbumani further alleged that Tamizhkumaran was quickly allotted the Pennagaram seat after joining the Congress, and questioned the party’s strength in the constituency. He also accused G.K. Mani of misleading the party during efforts to protest the DMK over the 10.5% internal reservation for Vanniyars, and made claims about Mani’s wealth and conduct within the party.
He reiterated that the PMK had emerged stronger despite what he described as conspiracies to split it, and urged voters to back the party’s candidate in the constituency.
