Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Thursday said the DMK would “lose and run away” in the coming election, alleging that the ruling party has been relying on falsehoods and misdirection.

Annamalai campaigned in support of NDA candidates—AIADMK nominee Paramasivam in the Vedasandur Assembly constituency and Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) nominee Vidiyal Sekar in the Ottanchathiram constituency. Sharing photographs from the campaign, he issued a statement attacking the DMK’s record over the past five years.

He alleged that people had witnessed “deceptive tactics” and corruption under the DMK government and were waiting to vote it out. Referring to former Vedasandur MLA Swaminathan, he claimed the only “achievement” was bringing the Enforcement Directorate to the constituency, and linked alleged irregularities to issues in the Pongal gift hamper, including jaggery that “melted away.”

On delimitation, Annamalai said the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had brought a legal amendment to directly increase the number of Lok Sabha MPs across states by 50%. He accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of spreading “baseless” claims that Tamil Nadu’s constituencies would be reduced, and said voters were clear about the issue.

He also criticised the situation in Ottanchathiram, alleging that despite the same MLA being in office for 30 years, farmers and the public remained distressed. Citing 2023, he said 900 tonnes of rice allegedly smuggled from ration shops were seized, and argued that such failures showed an “ineffective” administration that should be removed, urging voters to back the NDA candidate in the constituency.
