Internal discontent has surfaced in major political parties after some candidates reportedly chose to rely on family members for handling election-related cash matters, rather than trusting party functionaries.
According to party sources, last-minute cash distribution is seen as a crucial part of campaign operations, and candidates have begun disbursing funds provided by their party leadership.
However, local office-bearers say many candidates have appointed relatives—such as fathers, husbands, brothers and other family members—to manage distribution, bypassing constituency in-charges and grassroots organisers.
In the DMK and AIADMK, where party functionaries are officially given priority, complaints allege that several influential candidates close to the leadership have still handed over the responsibility to family members. In some cases, even when party workers are assigned the task, relatives are said to be overseeing and monitoring it.
In the BJP too, party leaders have reportedly received complaints that funds provided by the leadership were placed under the control of family members who are not part of the party, and that they were exercising authority without respecting party workers.
