AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday said women’s safety in Tamil Nadu would improve only if the AIADMK returns to power. He made the remarks while campaigning at Kuppanur in the Sankagiri Assembly segment of Salem district.
Addressing voters, EPS framed the election as a contest between “a family” and the people of Tamil Nadu, alleging that the state was being exploited. He claimed law and order had deteriorated and said there was a lack of safety for women and the general public.
EPS also alleged that even police personnel were not safe under the current administration, citing that six policemen had been killed in the last six months. He further claimed murders, robberies and sexual crimes were occurring frequently.
He accused the DMK government of allowing easy availability of drugs such as ganja, and said students were being harmed by narcotics. EPS said the AIADMK would eradicate ganja sales if it comes to power.
Criticising the ruling party over corruption and unfulfilled promises, EPS said several commitments—including education loan waiver, gas subsidy and securing an exemption from NEET—had not been delivered. He appealed to voters to support the AIADMK and its alliance partners, ending his speech with the slogan: “AIADMK winning, good governance coming.”
