Tehran: Following an economic crisis in Iran, people took to the streets in protests, according to reports. The demonstrations were met with a military crackdown, in which thousands were killed in gunfire and many more were arrested.
As investigations into those linked to the protests continued, an Iranian court has sentenced a woman, identified as Pitha Hemmati, to death.
The court also imposed death sentences on her husband, Mohammad Reza Majid Asl, and two others who lived with them, identified as Firooz and Kourosh.
In addition, the court ordered the confiscation of their properties. Reports said nine people have already been executed in connection with the protests, and this is the first time a woman has been sentenced to death in such a case.
