Former AIADMK minister K.A. Sengottaiyan has spoken about the political developments that followed the death of J. Jayalalithaa, claiming he believed he would become the Chief Minister.
Addressing an election campaign meeting in Erode, Sengottaiyan said that until late night he felt he was the frontrunner, but by morning “the scene had changed,” referring to what transpired at Koovathur.
He alleged that another person had “a box” in hand while he did not, suggesting the last-minute shift was driven by factors beyond him. He also recalled that V.K. Sasikala spoke to him and that he responded by saying his priority was to ensure the party did not split.
Sengottaiyan further claimed he was told he would be the chief ministerial candidate and that he had already expressed support, but the situation changed at the final moment. He presented these remarks as his account of how the leadership decision slipped away.
