Campaign trail in Krishnagiri
Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, campaigning for NDA candidates ahead of the Assembly election, addressed meetings across districts including Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Pudukkottai. In Krishnagiri, he accused DMK leaders of repeatedly raising “Hindi” and “Delhi” instead of listing development work.
Allegations against Thali MLA
Speaking at a campaign meeting in Thali constituency, Annamalai said voters were looking for change and targeted CPM leader Ramachandran, who has been elected MLA in 2006, 2011 and 2021. He alleged that murders and robberies occurred during his tenure and referred to a granite-related case he said is under trial.
Call for aligned governments
Annamalai argued that change would be possible only if the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre, an EPS-led government in Tamil Nadu, and NDA victories in constituencies such as Thali and Hosur were “in one line”. He also claimed the DMK government had not delivered on its election promises, including on job creation and law and order.
Parliament bill and women’s reservation
He alleged that Congress, DMK and the Communists worked together in Parliament to defeat a bill introduced by Modi, and said it would not harm Tamil Nadu. He further said the Prime Minister would ensure 33% reservation for women in Parliament.
Crime claims
Annamalai claimed crimes against women had risen in the last five years and cited figures for sexual assaults, murders and offences against minors, including an average of 28 POCSO cases a day. He urged voters to back the NDA in the upcoming polling.
