New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has alleged that Tamil Nadu will face setbacks due to the DMK’s approach, which she described as narrow-minded and hostile to women.
In a social media post, Sitharaman referred to a statement by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on women’s reservation. She said EPS had highlighted how opposition parties led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and DMK leader M.K. Stalin had, in her view, deprived Tamil Nadu of opportunities for women’s representation in both the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly.
Sitharaman claimed that what she called “blind hatred” had harmed the state’s overall prospects as well as women’s opportunities. She accused the DMK of stubbornness, lack of long-term vision and an anti-women mindset.
She further said the DMK had refused to join what she described as a beneficial initiative that the Prime Minister had assured, and warned that such decisions would result in losses rather than gains for the state.
