Islamabad: Pakistan is intensifying security arrangements at its key Nur Khan Air Force base in Rawalpindi, amid fears of future attacks, according to recent satellite imagery.
The base suffered heavy damage during India’s military strike dubbed “Operation Sindhoor” last year. Even a year later, repair work is still underway, indicating the extent of the destruction caused.
Reports based on the imagery say new protective infrastructure is being added at the facility. Under the leadership of Army chief Asim Munir, special hangars are being built to keep fighter aircraft concealed.
The hangars are said to be designed not only to shield aircraft from weather, but also to reduce visibility to intelligence surveillance. The move is linked to concerns that aircraft parked in open areas can be easily monitored via satellites and targeted.
The report also notes that Pakistan has drawn lessons from the Iran–Israel conflict, where modern drone attacks highlighted the risks of leaving assets exposed in open spaces.
