Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 8.30 pm on Friday, an announcement made from New Delhi.

The address comes in the backdrop of the Centre’s plan to implement women’s reservation in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. A special session of Parliament was held to pass key measures, including the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill, a delimitation bill, and a Union Territory law amendment bill.

However, the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill aimed at enabling women’s reservation did not get the required two-thirds support in the Lok Sabha. While 352 MPs’ backing was needed, the bill received 298 votes in favour and 230 against.

With the bill’s defeat, public attention has now turned to the Prime Minister’s speech, with expectations rising over what he will say during the national address.
