With polling day drawing closer in Tamil Nadu, campaign schedules are tightening and leaders are trying to cover every constituency. However, actor-politician Vijay, contesting an election for the first time, is facing criticism that his outreach is concentrated on a limited set of constituencies.
According to the report, Vijay has largely prioritised campaigning in seats linked to senior party functionaries, while many other candidates are said to have been left without similar attention. Party workers are quoted as complaining that several candidates from less prominent backgrounds are repeatedly calling the party office to ask when Vijay will visit their constituencies.
There are also allegations that Vijay frequently cancels campaign programmes at short notice. The report claims that even when permissions are obtained, events are sometimes called off, and that he avoids campaigning beyond 6 pm and returns to Panaiyur by private flight instead of staying overnight in outstation locations.
The report notes that Vijay has so far taken part in six days of roadshows and campaigning across places including Chennai, Karaikudi, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Tiruppur, along with one day in Puducherry. Of these, it says two days were spent in his own constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchi East—and one day in Puducherry, with the remaining days largely supporting candidates who hold party posts.
A list cited in the report includes campaigning linked to Perambur (Vijay), Kolathur (VS Babu), Villivakkam (Aadhav Arjuna—event cancelled), Tiruchi East (Vijay), Karaikudi (TK Prabhu), Kanniyakumari (Madhavan), Thoothukudi (Srinath), Tiruppur South (Balamurugan), Egmore (Rajmohan), Thousand Lights (JCD Prabhakar) and T. Nagar (Bussy Anand).
