Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai campaigned in Tiruvarur Assembly constituency in support of NDA-backed BJP candidate Govi Chandru. During the campaign, he launched a sharp attack on actor-politician Kamal Haasan.
Addressing the gathering, Annamalai alleged that a vote for the DMK alliance would be “a vote against India’s sovereignty.” He also took aim at Kamal Haasan, saying he should “raise his voice only in proportion to the money received,” referring to a Rajya Sabha seat and campaign-related support.
In a social media post sharing campaign photographs, Annamalai claimed that Tiruvarur district ranks near the bottom in economic growth and manufacturing, and is among the lowest five in the human development index. He blamed the district’s lack of development on the DMK’s long-standing presence in the constituency.
He further criticised the DMK for fielding a candidate he said faces allegations in murder and corruption cases, calling it shameful. Annamalai also accused the DMK of betraying farmers over the past five years, including issues related to paddy procurement and storage infrastructure.
Urging voters to back the NDA, he appealed for a decisive victory for Govi Chandru to “restore Tiruvarur’s pride” and protect farmers’ interests. The campaign event was also streamed live on Dinamalar’s YouTube channel.
