Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan, speaking during a campaign event in Chennai, praised Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) minister P.K. Shekar Babu for his work related to temples.

Kamal said Shekar Babu had conducted consecration ceremonies (kumbabishekam) for more temples and claimed his contribution to temples exceeded that of Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola. He also described the DMK as a party with many “good hearts,” adding that he had observed it since childhood.

Referring to his relationship with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Kamal said their friendship spanned generations and was not a matter of personal pride. He defended the government’s distribution of an “8,000-rupee coupon,” arguing that public assets and institutions built by earlier leaders belonged to the people.

Kamal also questioned whether any BJP member had faced Income Tax raids, and warned that voting for the opposition would mean both the Prime Minister and Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister would be “in Delhi.” He said the state’s Chief Minister should be in Tamil Nadu with a Tamil ethos, and urged voters to support the DMK.

He made these remarks while addressing supporters during the campaign.
