Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday alleged that DMK MLAs in Tamil Nadu had earned Rs 5,000 crore through illegal sand mining.
He made the charge while campaigning in Tenkasi district’s Vasudevanallur constituency, where he took part in a roadshow in support of BJP candidate Anandan Ayyasamy.
In his election speech, Singh said the state’s law and order situation had deteriorated and held the Chief Minister and his son responsible. He also linked the deaths in Kallakurichi due to illicit liquor to what he described as the DMK government’s negligence.
Singh further claimed that public funds were not reaching people but were going to DMK members, and said the alleged “corruption money” would be recovered. He also spoke about plans such as providing Rs 2,000 per month to women if the NDA comes to power and modernising the Thoothukudi port.
The campaign event was streamed live online, including on Dinamalar’s YouTube platforms.
