VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan, campaigning in Vriddhachalam, appealed to voters to prove in the election arena that they are not driven by a “cinema craze”. He was canvassing in support of DMDK general secretary Premalatha.

Addressing the gathering, Thirumavalavan drew a comparison with Sangam literature, saying that just as the “Ten Idylls” and “Eight Anthologies” are significant, political victories in “10 constituencies and 8 constituencies” should be secured, and stressed that Vriddhachalam must be won.

Referring to whistling supporters, he said whistling has its place in theatres, not in the Assembly, and urged people to “send them back to theatres”. He called for votes to remain consolidated and asked villagers to persuade young voters to support the ‘murasu’ symbol.

He also responded to claims that Dalit youth were being drawn behind actor Vijay due to cinema fascination, questioning whether they were “hero-struck” or “whistling youngsters,” and asserted that they were ideological heirs who must demonstrate their political commitment through their vote.
