A необы incident in China has drawn widespread attention after a luxury car was buried near a deceased man’s grave. The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz valued at about Rs 1.5 crore, was reportedly placed in a separate pit beside the burial site.

The incident took place in Wafangdian area of Liaoning province, where a wealthy 70-year-old man recently died. According to reports, he had a strong fondness for luxury cars, prompting his family to carry out the burial as part of a traditional practice.

A video of the act spread rapidly on social media, triggering sharp criticism. Many users called it wasteful and irresponsible, especially amid economic difficulties, and alleged it could contribute to environmental pollution.

While some defended it as a gesture of respect, others described it as excessive display. Following public demands for action, Chinese authorities questioned the family, issued a warning, and made them offer a public apology, calling the act a feudal superstition. The government has also decided to impose a fine over allegations including environmental pollution.
