Tamil Nadu Congress president Selva Perundhakai on Sunday claimed that Income Tax Department officials were conducting a search at his residence in Kilpauk, Chennai, and that he was being “confined” in the name of a raid.
In a social media post, he said the action came as Congress MP Rahul was in Tamil Nadu for election campaigning. He alleged that Hindi-speaking officials had illegally restricted him within the Sriperumbudur Assembly segment and prevented him from attending campaign work and carrying out political duties.
Perundhakai also criticised what he described as the use of central investigative agencies as tools of political pressure, and said he strongly condemned the alleged politically motivated move. He reiterated the same allegations while speaking to reporters outside his house.
However, within hours, the Income Tax Department rejected the claims, stating that no search had been conducted and that his version was not true.
