MNAM chief Kamal Haasan, campaigning in Coimbatore, said Tamil Nadu must “stop the betrayal coming from the north” and vowed to resist what he described as a “northern invasion” if it attempts to dominate the state.

Speaking in support of DMK candidate Senthil Balaji in the Coimbatore South constituency, Haasan said he was impressed by the 10-km-long G.D. bridge in the city. However, he accused the Union government of ignoring densely populated areas while granting metro rail projects to places it prefers.

Haasan also alleged that those claiming they would “eliminate the DMK” were acting under the influence of a single “boss” based in the north. Referring to remarks made in Madurai by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he questioned whether such statements amounted to promises or “blackmail”, and said intimidation would not work in Tamil Nadu.

He said Tamils are not believers in violence but have faith in the law, and asserted that voters would demonstrate their resolve in the election. Recalling that Coimbatore South was the constituency he had contested earlier, Haasan said he believed those who supported him then would vote for Senthil Balaji this time, adding that Coimbatore was poised to create a new political shift in Tamil Nadu.
