Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign in West Bengal on Friday drew attention after he stopped at a roadside stall in Jhargram and tasted the state’s popular snack, jhalmuri.
According to reports, Modi was travelling to a campaign event when he asked his vehicle to stop. He then stepped out and walked to a nearby shop, where he interacted with the stall owner before purchasing the snack.
The Prime Minister paid for the item, though the vendor initially declined to accept the money. Modi reportedly insisted, after which the shopkeeper accepted the payment.
Photos and videos of the stop have been widely shared online. West Bengal is scheduled to vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29, and Modi addressed campaign meetings at four locations in the state on the same day.
Jhalmuri is a snack made by mixing items such as mixture, peanuts, puffed rice, onion, cucumber, tomato and spices.
