NAGERCOIL: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, campaigning in Kanyakumari district, said the AIADMK had played a major role in Tamil Nadu’s development—an observation that, according to reports, left DMK workers surprised.
Speaking at an election meeting in Lakshmipuram, he accused the BJP of pushing a “one language, one culture” politics and said each language carries its own history and must be protected. He argued that states should be governed by their own people and alleged the BJP wanted to run Tamil Nadu from Delhi.
Rahul said the BJP and RSS do not accept the spirit of the Constitution and claimed the party was responsible for unrest in Manipur. He also said all states should receive equal importance within the Union.
On Tamil Nadu politics, he alleged the present AIADMK had become a tool for the BJP’s entry into the state and claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to “control” EPS. At the same time, he said AIADMK leaders were once true representatives of Tamil Nadu, and alleged they were now caught in the BJP’s grip due to corruption.
He further said his alliance was committed to protecting Tamil language and culture, opposed moves that could reduce state representation, and highlighted Tamil Nadu’s record on social justice and welfare schemes, including the state’s midday meal and breakfast initiatives.
