Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday campaigned in support of BJP candidate Ananthan Ayyasamy, who is contesting from the Vasudevanallur constituency in Tenkasi district.
In his address, Singh alleged that DMK ministers and MLAs were involved in corruption. He claimed that the Madras High Court had found a DMK minister and the minister’s wife guilty, and accused the party of illegal mineral theft amounting to more than Rs 5,000 crore.
Singh also referred to an allegation of kidney trafficking against a DMK MLA, saying an inquiry was under way and claiming the MLA had given a confession statement. He said the DMK should be voted out.
He further blamed the DMK government for the deaths of people who consumed illicit liquor in Kallakurichi. Singh accused the DMK of mocking Hindu beliefs and of preventing the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam at Madurai’s Thiruparankundram despite a High Court order.
Stating that the court’s direction had not been implemented, Singh said that once his party forms a government, the Karthigai Deepam would be lit at Thiruparankundram. He also alleged that Congress and DMK alliance parties had blocked support for the 33% women’s reservation bill in Parliament.
