With the election campaign set to end by tomorrow, a few prominent leaders in the DMK and AIADMK are said to be facing unusually tight contests, according to party sources. Some insiders even say it would be a surprise if a few of them manage to retain their seats.
In Katpadi (Vellore district), DMK general secretary and Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan is facing growing anti-incumbency. Party sources point to his narrow escape in the previous election and claim dissatisfaction has risen in several localities, while internal unease over his son Kathir Anand’s role is also being cited.
In Rasipuram (Namakkal district), Minister Mathiventhan is battling both local discontent and factional tensions within the party. Sources allege he is being challenged by internal rivalries, and note that he had won by a small margin last time; the entry of BJP candidate Premkumar is also being seen as a significant test.
In Thirumayam (Pudukkottai district), Law Minister Raghupathi is again in a close race, with party workers acknowledging the seat has historically been difficult for him. Local dynamics and shifting community support are being discussed within the DMK camp, with some leaders describing the situation as worrying.
In Kurinjipadi (Cuddalore district), Agriculture Minister Paneerselvam is seeking re-election, with sources noting his strong community influence but also pointing to the long tenure he has had in the constituency.
