Washington: US President Donald Trump marked the first anniversary of the government’s ‘no tax on tips’ policy by ordering his preferred McDonald’s meal to the Oval Office.

The policy, announced as a 2024 election promise, was turned into law last year. To highlight the milestone on April 13, Trump used the DoorDash platform to bring in items including cheeseburgers and fries.

According to the report, the delivery was handed to Trump in person by Sharon Simmons, a DoorDash driver from Arkansas and a supporter of the Republican Party. Trump later shared photos and videos of the moment on social media.

Speaking at an event on Saturday, Trump said some may view such promotional acts as lowbrow, but added that staging a bit of “drama” is very common in politics.

The episode has drawn sharp criticism online, with users alleging it was a planned stunt because Simmons had previously backed the policy. The burger-focused promotion has since become a topic of debate in the US.
