Hindu organisations, including Hindu Munnani, have submitted a complaint to the Union Home Ministry seeking action to stop foreign funding to organisations linked to the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Conference. The complaint comes just two days ahead of the Assembly election.

According to the complainants, pamphlets are being distributed across Tamil Nadu in the names of the Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Conference, the Christian Livelihood Rights Movement and the Christian United Council. The pamphlets allegedly urge Christians to defeat “Sanatana forces” and caution voters against supporting smaller parties, while portraying the DMK as a force opposing “Sanatana”.

The pamphlets also claim that restrictions imposed by the BJP-led Union government on receiving foreign funds have affected the work of Christian institutions, the complainants said.

A representative of a Hindu organisation said foreign contributions meant for service activities should not be used for political purposes. Alleging violations, the group has asked the Home Ministry to examine the inflow of foreign funds to the Bishops’ Conference-run organisations and take steps to prevent their misuse.
