The Madras High Court has adjourned a petition seeking directions for an inquiry into Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi’s asset details mentioned in his election affidavit.

The plea was filed by R. Kumaravel, a voter from the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni constituency. He alleged that there are discrepancies between the asset particulars declared in Udhayanidhi’s affidavit and those submitted during the 2021 Assembly elections.

The matter came up before a bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan. Representing the Income Tax Department, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan and advocate A.P. Srinivasan submitted an interim report and sought time to collect further evidence.

The department told the court it currently has only Udhayanidhi’s income tax account details and needs additional time to gather supporting material. Accepting the request, the bench granted four weeks’ time and posted the case for further hearing.
