Colombo: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, announced a set of welfare initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of Tamils residing in the island nation.
On the second day of his tour, he met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. During the engagement, six memorandums of understanding were signed between the two sides covering areas including health, social development, energy and rehabilitation.
Radhakrishnan later called on Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in Sri Lanka’s education sector.
As part of the visit, an announcement was made to enhance the scholarship scheme of the Sri Lanka Plantation Workers’ Education Trust. He also interacted with members of the Tamil community in Nuwara Eliya who benefited under the Indian housing project.
The Vice President visited the Seetha Amman temple for prayers before concluding the tour and departing for Delhi.
