Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has appealed to voters to be ready for what he called a “whistle revolution” on April 23, urging families to come out in large numbers and vote for the party’s whistle symbol.
In a letter addressed to the people of Tamil Nadu, Vijay said he entered politics to repay what he described as a debt of gratitude to the public. He alleged that he has faced sustained pressure, constraints and hardships since stepping into politics.
Without naming individuals, he described the DMK as his political opponent and the BJP as an ideological opponent, and claimed that “fascist-minded” and “anti-people” forces were attempting to weaken his movement. Vijay asserted that he would not be bought off with inducements and said authorities could not be used to intimidate him.
Vijay said TVK’s rise was driven by the support of women, youth and the wider public, including supporters across the world. Reiterating his appeal, he asked voters to treat the whistle symbol as the single clear choice and to vote without hesitation despite what he called a “rain” of corruption and money power in politics.
