Coimbatore witnessed a high-visibility final-phase campaign on Tuesday as BJP leader K. Annamalai and Coimbatore North candidate Vanathi Srinivasan rode together on a scooter during a two-wheeler rally in the Ganapathy area.
The rally, led by Annamalai in support of Vanathi, began at Sivasakthi Colony and passed through Bharathi Nagar, Vilankurichi Road, Maniyakarampalayam, Kannappa Nagar and Krishnammal Street. Party workers and residents welcomed the convoy by showering flowers and raising slogans.
During the ride, Vanathi sat pillion while the duo appealed to voters to support the BJP and vote for the lotus symbol. The campaign drew attention as the leaders interacted with people along the route.
Speaking to reporters, Annamalai claimed opinion surveys were favourable to the party and said people wanted a state government that could utilise Central government funds. He also alleged that the DMK had unleashed “violent politics” and made remarks targeting minister Senthil Balaji.
Annamalai further said voters expected the Election Commission to be “strong”, with adequate officials and staff to ensure effective conduct of duties. He also asserted that Vanathi’s victory in Coimbatore North was assured regardless of money being distributed, and called for “outsiders” to be sent out of Coimbatore.
