DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi on Tuesday took a swipe at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami during the final phase of election campaigning in Thoothukudi.

Referring to Palaniswami’s campaign remark that he would like to be born into a family in Tamil Nadu “in his next life”, Kanimozhi said she does not believe in rebirth, but added that if such a thing existed, he should be born in Gujarat, not Tamil Nadu. She alleged that he “stands with folded hands” before the BJP and has “mortgaged” both himself and the AIADMK in Delhi.

Kanimozhi also accused the BJP of attempting to reduce the number of MPs that Tamil Nadu is entitled to while increasing representation for Hindi-speaking states. She said protecting state rights was the DMK’s responsibility and claimed the party had defeated that effort.

She further alleged that despite knowledge of money being kept at the residence of an AMMK candidate allied with the BJP in Ottapidaram, no action was taken. In contrast, she claimed cases are fabricated against the DMK, while wrongdoing by alliance partners is concealed.
