A roadshow was held in Avinashi to campaign for BJP candidate Murugan in the Avinashi constituency, as electioneering entered its final phase. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took part and sought votes for the candidate.
Addressing supporters, Yadav said he had come to the “holy land” of Avinashi to ask for votes. He claimed the AIADMK–BJP alliance had gained momentum and argued that only the National Democratic Alliance offered opportunities for ordinary people to rise to positions such as minister, chief minister or prime minister.
He also accused the DMK of being dominated by a single family and alleged that the party had blocked the women’s reservation law brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking from near the Avinashi temple, he said tradition and culture were rooted in temples, and criticised the DMK and its ally Congress as being against spirituality.
Candidate Murugan, in his closing campaign speech, urged voters to “send the DMK home,” alleging corruption, bribery and lack of safety for women. He said a “double-engine government” would speed up development works and promised to secure housing for those in need, stating that around 20,000 people in Avinashi required homes.
The roadshow began near the new bus stand and concluded near the chariot station area. Leaders and workers from the AIADMK–BJP alliance and other partners participated in the closing campaign event.
