TIRUPPUR: Tension prevailed in parts of Tiruppur after residents gathered on the street alleging that money promised for votes was not paid even though tokens had been distributed.

According to locals, people assembled at Sellam Nagar and Sivasakthi Nagar in the Tiruppur South constituency after learning that DMK workers were allegedly distributing cash. Some residents reportedly surrounded a few party workers and argued that only tokens were given and the cash was still pending.

As the crowd grew, the party workers left the spot. The residents then staged a brief road blockade on KTC Road, police said, before officers intervened, questioned them about the protest and dispersed the gathering.

Similar allegations were reported from Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district, where DMK workers were said to have distributed cash on Tuesday night. In the seventh ward, some voters claimed they did not receive money and, in protest, marched towards the residence of DMK candidate Abdul Wahab.

In Dindigul, residents in the 17th ward alleged that cash distribution had stopped. After being told that the “accounts were closed” and no further payout would be made, an angry group reportedly surrounded the office of a DMK councillor on GTN Road.
