KOLKATA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that if the BJP forms the government in West Bengal, cases linked to alleged injustice and lawlessness in the state will be reopened and investigated again.
Speaking at a public meeting in Dum Dum, Modi pointed to the first phase of polling held a day earlier, where 92% voting was recorded. He described it as the highest turnout in the state’s election history and said it reflected people’s strong faith in the electoral process.
Modi alleged that the Trinamool Congress had “damaged the temple of democracy” and claimed that the high turnout showed people were rebuilding it. He also said enthusiastic participation by voters had unsettled the Trinamool Congress and signalled a desire for change.
With the second and final phase scheduled for April 29 and results due on May 4, Modi said that after the outcome, those he described as Trinamool “goons” would have no place to hide. He further claimed that a BJP government would free the state from corruption and disorder, restore West Bengal’s lost pride, and prioritise women-led development.
He reiterated that once results are declared and the BJP comes to power, every file related to alleged injustice and atrocities in West Bengal would be reopened and all cases would be properly probed, calling it his guarantee.
