Aradhana Mahotsavam, observed in memory of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, was held on Thursday (April 24) at Puttaparthi, drawing devotees from across the world for special prayers.
The day commemorates the occasion when Sathya Sai Baba is remembered as having left his physical form and become a “jyoti” (divine light). The Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation also marks the date as a day to emphasise human values such as truth, peace, love and non-violence.
As part of the observances, students and staff of the Bhagavan’s educational institutions offered devotional songs expressing gratitude. The sanctum hall and the Sai Kulwant Hall were decorated to create a devotional atmosphere.
The morning programme began at 8.00 am with Vedic chanting, followed by the rendering of “Sai Pancharatna” kritis at 8.10 am, a tradition observed annually. Talks were scheduled from 9.00 am, followed by a divine discourse, bhajans and mangala aarti.
An evening session was also announced, with Vedic chanting at 5.00 pm and mangala aarti at 5.45 pm. Similar special bhajans and service activities, including food distribution to the needy, are held at Sai centres worldwide on the day.
