Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Selvapperunthakai has said he will release evidence related to the income tax raid controversy on Thursday morning.

He had earlier alleged that when Rahul Gandhi visited Tamil Nadu for election campaigning, steps were taken to politically sideline him by conducting an income tax search at his residence. The Income Tax Department denied the allegation and a complaint was also filed with the police.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Selvapperunthakai claimed that during Rahul Gandhi’s campaign in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts, sudden searches were carried out in places where he stayed, his office, and locations including the homes of alliance party members, under the name of “search.”

He said he had spoken about the incidents openly through the media, but income tax officials continued to deny them. To clarify what actually happened, he said he is ready to disclose the full set of evidence.

After casting his vote at Manimangalam in the Sriperumbudur constituency on Wednesday, he told reporters that he has no hesitation in stating the truth and is prepared to face matters legally. He said he will meet journalists at 11:00 am on Thursday and release video and photo evidence on who misused authority.
