Former minister Senthil Balaji, the DMK candidate from Coimbatore South, did not cast his vote in the Assembly election, according to reports from party functionaries.

Balaji, who had earlier contested from Karur, was fielded in Coimbatore South with the aim of strengthening the party’s prospects in the city. During the campaign, he alternated between Coimbatore and Karur districts.

Although he is contesting in Coimbatore South, his voter registration remains in Karur. It had been indicated that he would travel to Karur on polling day, vote in the morning and return to Coimbatore.

However, he did not go to Karur and stayed in Coimbatore throughout the day, party sources said. DMK functionaries suggested he may have chosen to remain in the constituency to handle any unnecessary tension during polling.

They also noted that he had moved to Coimbatore South ahead of the election and continued to stay there even on the day of voting.
