US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying the United States is not in a hurry to end the ongoing war but that “time is running out” for Tehran.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said Iran must stop providing financial support to Hezbollah. He also claimed the US has control over the Strait of Hormuz and said Iran had approached Washington about reopening the vital shipping route.
Trump said members of his team welcomed the proposal, but he opposed it, arguing that reopening the strait would allow Iran to earn about $500 million a day. He said he did not want Iran to gain that revenue until the issue is fully resolved.
He added that he has been working for the past six weeks to bring about a ceasefire. Trump further claimed Iran’s military has been “completely defeated,” and said the US would destroy armed boats if they are spotted.
Trump also asserted that Iran’s navy and air force have been eliminated, its air defence systems destroyed, and its leaders removed. He said Iran has lost its leadership and is now fighting internally “like cats and dogs.”
